FAQ

Is what I tell my psychologist confidential?

Yes, all information you discuss with your psychologist is confidential in all your sessions. However, there are two exceptions to this rule; firstly when your psychologist believes you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else. The second exception is in relation to court orders. Your psychologist will explain these limitations to confidentiality with you during your sessions.

What should I expect from my first session?

When you arrive at your appointment you will be given some paperwork to fill out including basic contact details, a questionnaire called the DASS21 and a consent form about confidentiality and fees. Your psychologist will allow opportunity for you to ask any questions and will explain confidentiality in detail with you. The remainder of the session includes discussing the issues that have brought you to therapy. For your psychologist to understand your concerns and challenges they will guide you through the discussion to explore relevant background history including past therapy sessions, work history, family and social relationships, diet and exercise habits, quality of sleep and any mental health symptoms. Your psychologist will collaborate with you at the end of the session to work out therapy goals you would like to achieve and may suggest a treatment plan at the time of the first session. However, sometimes this treatment plan may take longer to develop than after your first session depending on what your concerns and challenges are.

How long is each session?

Allow an hour for your session: 50 minutes with your psychologist and by the time you pay for the session and make another appointment it will make up the full hour.

Is there any limit to the amount of sessions if I am paying for them myself?

No, there is no limit, however your psychologist will assist you in forming therapy goals at the beginning of your engagement in therapy and recommend a treatment plan. The number of sessions you will need to access will be based on your therapy goals and treatment plan.

You will be able to access these total of 20 sessions within a 12-month period or within the same calendar year.

How much is the Medicare rebate?

There is a difference in the Medicare rebate when you see a Clinical Psychologist or a Psychologist. Please note provisional psychologist services are not covered by private health funds. Please refer to Medicare rebate amounts below:

How do I claim back my Medicare rebate?

After paying the full amount for the session, the rebate is refunded at the time of the appointment via the EFTPOS machine with a Medicare card and a debit card.

What if I don’t have a debit card?

You will be issued with an invoice and you will be able to claim back your Medicare rebate online via MyGov.com

Can I just pay the difference when using my Mental Health Care Plan?

No, if using your MHCP. You will need to pay the full amount as Medicare won’t allow this.

Can I use my Private Health Fund for sessions?

Yes, you can. It will depend on your Private Health Fund policy as to how many sessions you will be covered for. Please contact and ask your Private Health Fund as all policies vary.

Can I pay the difference if I am using Private Health

Yes, if you see Anita you can. If you have your Private Health card at the time of the appointment and it scans through the EFTPOS machine. Your Private Health fund will pay Anita and you pay the difference. If your card doesn’t work at the time of the appointment you will be issued with an invoice after you have paid the full amount and then you will have to claim your rebate back from your Private Health fund. Unfortunately, Nadya is unable to offer this service at this time, you will need to pay the full amount and then claim back your rebate yourself with the invoice provided by our receptionist. Please note provisional psychologist services are not covered by private health funds.

Can I claim my Medicare and Private Health Fund rebate at the time of my appointment?

No, you can only use one or the other. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan it is recommended when you use all of your sessions on this plan firstly; you can then use your Private Health Fund rebate on further sessions.

Do you bulk bill?

At ReGen Psychology we believe in providing an affordable service for all our clients with competitively priced fees. Our fees are set at a lower rate, than the current Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee of $300, for a 46–60-minute consultation. Therefore ReGen psychologists don’t bulk bill. Concession rates maybe available in cases of financial hardship. Please speak to your treating psychologist if you believe you maybe eligible.

Do I have to pay if I miss a session?

Our cancellation policy allows you to give notice that you would like to reschedule or cancel an appointment within a reasonable timeframe (24 hours notice) and you won’t be charged. If you fail to cancel or reschedule your appointment under a 24 hour period or do not attend your appointment there will be a $50 fee that you will need to pay. Please keep in mind that a late cancellation impacts other clients on the waiting list and the psychologist that has kept this time exclusively for your psychological care. Exceptional or unforeseen circumstances may be considered at the discretion of your treating psychologist. You will be unable to claim a Medicare or Private Health rebate for a cancellation fee.
